Rough Riders - PROCJAM 2018 Launch
I'm excited to launch my PROCJAM 2018 entry, Rough Riders! About a year ago, right after I finished Mini Hockey Champ!, I had the idea to make a rail shooter inspired by Sega arcade classics like After Burner. I put together a small prototype that featured some basic flight controls, but ultimately left it on the back burner because I wasn't ready to build out all the terrain geometry I'd need to make the background move fast and feel varied.
Last month when PROCJAM was announced it dawned on me to give the game another go, this time solving the content issue with procedural generation. I spent a couple hours every morning before work putting it together, figuring out a way to stitch together generated terrain and allowing for altitude changes with mostly seamless transitions. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to populate the surface of the terrain and instead spent about 2 weeks finalizing the gameplay and enemy patterns. I think there may be an actual game in there somewhere, so I'm excited to hear people's thoughts after they give it a go!
